Backyard Paradise

This is a picture of my back yard. After hours of planting, and weeding it's finally time to reap the benefits. Actually I get to enjoy this because we currently rent the basement from some people who are avid gardeners. Being here reminds me of Grandma Oldham and makes me want an oasis similar to this someday. Even the trees were in full pink blossom just a week before this picture was taken. I am reminded of the story "The Little Red Hen," and in this case my landlords are the hen and I the lazy pig that simply gets to enjoy all the fruits of their labor. They are outside working 1-2 hours daily to improve it. This picture doesn't capture all of its beauty. It also has a huge gazebo that can comfortably seat 20 people with a porch swing, hanging flower baskets, lanterns with big candles, a dining table and chairs, a huge grill and outdoor kitchen, outdoor couches where the canopy overhead can be lit up at night with lights, a swing set equipped with a drinking fountain and misters to keep the kids cool in the summer, a trampoline, a skateboard ramp, and a huge paved driveway to ride bikes on and there is more but you get the idea. It's the perfect place for kids and I really feel so blessed to be here. It's only a 2 bedroom apartment otherwise we would be tempted to stay longer.

The best part of this yard is that the family gathers every night to share dinner and to talk and play. They are making unforgettable memories and I want to follow their example and someday have a yard that invites family togetherness.

  1. I totally agree. I dream of having a yard like them. Not only is it beautiful but like you said it is an Oasis, a retreat if you will from the world to truly enjoy the fruit of your labors (or as you said of Their Labors! LOL!) I loved the comment on the little red hen. P.S. I really enjoy reading your blog. And just so you know I've read it I will try to leave comments more often.
